Impro Sessions

Ensemble Art Performance
Impro Sessions

Karry Kamal Karry proposes with his Ensemble Art Performance, performance art installations that are an extension of his work as a choreographer and director. It is a laboratory for the development of immersive and experimental work. In the Impro-Sessions, several artists from different backgrounds (dancers, actors, singers, musicians, writers, philosophers, sociologists, photographers, video artists, directors, painters, illustrators, designers, graphic artists, stylists, etc.) meet, confront each other, and play together under the aegis of the audience, which gives rhythm to the performance.

The Impro-Sessions are an event that will be repeated every month, inviting the artists, surprise guests and the public to interact and to work out a unique and original creation together. The audience chooses predefined game situations from the project application and the artist(s) they wish to see on stage. As for the artists, they make every effort to respect the audience's choice and to propose an improvisation with innovative play that is always in line with the audience's reactions.

Indeed, the Impro-Sessions seek the active participation of the audience in the very process of creating a work in progress. Gathered in a given space-time and in a thinking place, artists and spectators merge and are displaced from their comfort of playing, of watching. While the artist confronts the complex exercise of improvisation and the spectators' involvement, the audience experiences the creation, the endangerment of the body that a live performance implies.

Artists will confront each other for an indefinite period of time, in an installation that is both plastic and sound, in a unique and unusual place. Each participating artist accepts the game of stripping down, accepts to enter the material without his usual components. They also accept the constraint of the choice of situation made by the public. It is not the artists who decide to follow up on the situations, but rather the spect-actor, using participatory tools.

Focusing on the body, installation and sound spatialization, as well as on different artistic disciplines, the Impro-Sessions strive to bring together different universes, artists and audiences in order to develop a new artistic and spectator experience, to establish a link, a network of exchange between the artists, the audience and the places invested.

A monthly event, the Impro-Sessions will constitute an artistic exploration in the form of a mix, a live performance, a concert, a structured or instantaneous composition or simply an interview. All the performances will be recorded and converted into a podcast to create a performative cartography.
