Pop No Pop  I PnP - Project

The Body and Pop Culture: Popular Not Popular!

On an initiative of K3MK Company, and the K3+ & Co (commissions) and Lab Media Project (cultural mediation laboratory), in partnership with festivals, theatres, centres, schools, universities, galleries, contemporary art museums, is launching a call for participation in the project entitled Pop No Pop.

In a changing society, how can the historical, cultural and thematic exploration of the body in popular culture be broadened while fully playing its role of social integration?

What are the main pop cultural representations of the body?

To answer this question, Karry Kamal Karry invites artists and researchers to examine the performing arts, contemporary music, cyber-literature, cinema and the form industry. The artists and researchers will examine the categories of the 'reduced body', the 'hyper body', the 'digitised body' or the 'written body', the 'utopian body' and the 'burdened body', and will examine the notion of the real body and the dangers of a new purism.

The project on the body and pop culture: Populaire Non Populaire! - PnP, Pop No Pop - is a multidisciplinary and participatory research and creation process located on the European territory. K3MK Company will create during three years with its partners, collaborators and the associated public a stage work, performances, participative workshops, seminars, a webTv, a multimedia device and a documentary.

All of these creations will always be reflexive, i.e. associated with a process of research and theorisation. Pop No Pop aims to be a politically engaged initiative, expressing social issues through art. Moreover, the process of creation and multidisciplinary research is not predetermined: although it follows broad guidelines from the outset, Pop No Pop will above all be the result of the collective implementation of such a process, bringing together practitioners, theorists and the public around the project.

Open to a diversity of artistic and scientific practices, this call for applications is addressed to researchers and artists: dancers, actors, musicians, singers, visual artists, performers, video artists, photographers, writers, philosophers, sociologists, doctors, architects, designers, stylists, etc., and invites them to take up the theme of "The body and pop culture and ask the question of what is Popular or Not Popular! (PnP)" echoing our world, its contemporary issues and its relationship with the new representations of the body, as part of the multidisciplinary research-creation project on the body and pop culture organized by the "K3+ & Co / Ensemble Art Performance / Lab Media Project" of K3MK Company from September 2023 to December 31, 2026

On the occasion of the Pop No Pop: research-creation project on the body and pop culture 2023/26, the artistic disciplines: performing arts, contemporary music, cyberliterature, cinema and the form industry will be particularly solicited. Embodying current practices, as close as possible to the elements and to contemporary research-creation, these arts and sciences will be at the heart of the programme of actions, as much as the alternative, unofficial, imaginary and fictional domains.

This multidisciplinary research-creation program of K3MK Company wishes to initiate the reflection on the body, the realization of mediation actions, the production of new shows questioning the diffusion in the social fabric of a requirement of realization of actions and works through the aesthetics of the body or to think the body and the pop culture.

Objectives

In the continuity of K3MK Company's major projects in the field of the performing arts, the Pop No Pop project aims to question this societal upheaval and the pervasiveness of the ethical issue of the body.

This participation will include remuneration, payment of travel expenses, accommodation and meals. A proposal for a certain number of actions for each artist, researcher or associated public will be made by the Pop No Pop (PnP - Project) project leader and the K3MK Company steering group, for their participation/collaboration.
